Click the Mask 1 icon in the Masks panel and two buttons will appear below Mask 1. These allow us to add to the existing selection or subtract from it. In this case, we want to use a smart selection to remove Dixie, so click the Subtract button and choose Select Subject from the Subtract From Mask With menu. This creates a masked area for the grass, which we will darken and add warmth to by increasing the temperature to 43, and decreasing the Exposure to –0.42. Let’s also rename this mask Grass.

Right-click the Grass mask and select Duplicate “Grass” from the menu. This allows us to use the duplicate mask as a starter mask and add to it.

We can see that the grass in the image became darker. This is because the effect we applied in the previous step is also duplicated. We need to remove that darkening from the new mask.
